A total of 525,301 expatriate workers out of 7,243,000 escaped from
their workplaces and employers in 2013, according to statistics issued
by the Ministry of Labor. The ministry based the statistics on
information provided by labor offices all over kingdom, al-Watan daily
reported.
The escape percentage ranged between 7 to 11 percent of the total number of expatriate workers in each city. Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam accounted for half of the escape reports filed by the employers. Over two million expatriates work in Riyadh and 151,000 of them did not show up for work in 2013 and never returned to work. Dammam has 558,000 workers, of whom 40,213 escaped from their employers in 2013.
Jeddah has 1.016 million workers and 71,000 of them decided not to return to their employers last year.
There are 48,483 expatriates working in Bisha and the labor office there received 5,312 escape reports in 2013. In al-Ola, 1,486 escape reports were filed, accounting for 10.22 percent of the total number of workers which is 14,538.
Al-Khobar Labor Office received 34,571 cases in 2013, accounting for 9.95 percent of the total number of workers which is 347,382. Ras Tanura Labor Office received 4,522 cases in 2013, accounting for 9.32 percent of the total number of workers which is 48,535.
In Al-Baha, the labor office received 4,249 cases last year, accounting for 9.19 percent of the total number of workers which is 46,220. The labor office in Buqaiq received 2,082 cases in 2013, accounting for 8.95 percent of the total number of workers which is 23,265. Al-Ahsa Labor Office received 13,822 cases in 2013, accounting for 8.90 percent of the total number of workers which is 155,337. Abha Labor Office received 22,305 cases in 2013, accounting for 8.85 percent of the total number of workers which is 251,918.
In Arar, the labor office received 3,351 cases in 2013, accounting for 8.36percent of the total number of workers which is 40,074.
Madinah Labor Office received 13,749 cases in 2013, accounting for 7.03 percent of the total number of workers which is 195,701. In Makkah, the labor office received 15,175 cases in 2013, accounting for 5.54 percent of the total number of workers which is 273,778. Yanbu Labor Office received 4,406 cases in 2013, accounting for 5.54 percent of the total number of workers which is 71,136.
